"But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him"-Jeremiah 18:4
This is what My devotional from a few days ago said about the above verse:
"............the potter is highly skilled, imaginative and purposefully intent upon the outcome of his creation. In contrast, the clay is crude and unformed, misshapen and useless without the intervention of the master potter. By observing a potter at work, it becomes clear who is doing the shaping and who is being shaped.
How odd it would be for the clay to call out to the potter, "Hey, ease up there. Not so rough!" It's ridiculous to envision. And yet, Jeremiah's lesson of the potter still resonates with us. It is often painful to be the clay. At times we are pressed, pushed, molded and remolded. Our potter may crush us from time to time when he encounters residual clumps that need smoothing over.
However, our master potter knows his business far better than we do. We are a marred and messy mixture of clay and water. In the hands of our skilled potter, the outcome is beautiful and unique work of art.
This week try to remember the picture of a potter and his clay. Consider the difference between the creator and the creation. It may help to remember that our wise and loving God knows the beautiful vessel he alone is capable of fashioning."
This devotional really put all the trials and things that we go through in a new light. If only we can remember that we are being molded and shaped into something beautiful as we endure our hardships, we will be able to withstand them and perservere into a stronger more beautiful person :)
